What is PROFHILO?
Profhilo is an injectable skin bio-remodelling treatment that stimulates the production of collagen and elastin and helps to significantly improve tissue quality. Patients who undergo a Profhilo treatment can expect to see increased firmness and improved elasticity of the skin in the treatment area, with the effects lasting up to 6 months.
Profhilo contains stabilised Hyaluronic Acid – a naturally occurring substance that helps the skin to retain moisture more effectively. It is also used for effective skin remodelling and treating skin laxity, not just for ‘filling’ lines and wrinkles.
What are the benefits?
Profhilo can help to improve skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer looking, and feeling, skin. Any body area can be treated with Profhilo – from the crepey skin on your knees to your upper arms, décolletage and face.
Why should I have this treatment?
As we age and the production of the ‘scaffolding’ proteins of collagen and elastin within our skin starts to reduce, many people find that skin becomes lax and wrinkles appear more visible. The overall texture of our skin is also negatively affected by the physical ageing process, with many people complaining that their skin appears dull, dry and lacklustre.
Profhilo is designed to tackle these problems through effective skin bio-remodelling, and was awarded the Aesthetics Award for Product Innovation of the Year 2016 thanks to its revolutionary composition without chemical cross linking agents (BDDE) and as one of the most concentrated formulations of Hyaluronic Acid on the market.
How do I know if this treatment is safe and right for me?
At Cosmedics Dr Lalloo will only carry out a non-surgical aesthetic procedure following a detailed one-to-one consultation with a patient, enabling her to accurately assess whether a treatment is appropriate given a patient’s unique medical history, skin condition and expectations.
During your consultation, you will be given comprehensive information about the procedure, potential side effects and any pre- and post-treatment advice. You will also be given the time to decide whether or not, given the information you have received, you would like to proceed with any recommended procedure.
As with all non-surgical aesthetic treatments, there is a small risk of a patient experiencing side effects following a Profhilo treatment – though this is significantly reduced by asking detailed questions about any current and/or past health issues. Some patients have seen minor bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites, but this generally subsides quickly.
Profhilo is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or people who are allergic to Hyaluronic Acid.
How does this treatment work?
Profhilo is an injectable treatment that specifically targets a 2cm radius of the injection site, with the product being gradually absorbed into this specific area. As a result, if the face is being treated, there are just 5 injection points on each side of the face to ensure optimal distribution and absorption of the slow release Hyaluronic Acid formula.
Once the absorption process has started, Profhilo stimulates the production of 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality and skin tone, as well as improved overall texture, hydration and radiance. Profhilo also helps to increase the firmness and elasticity of the skin in the treatment area.
What happens during the procedure?
Following a pre-treatment consultation – if you decide to proceed with a Profhilo treatment – you will be invited in to a 45-minute appointment in our state-of-the-art clinic. Profhilo injections only take 15 minutes to carry out.
During the procedure, the injectable solution is delivered via a very fine disposable needle into the treatment area. If, for example, the face is being treated, five injections are delivered on each side of the face. Profhilo diffuses within the tissue after the injection and improved hydration and texture can start to be seen in 3-5 days, though older patients may not see tightening of the skin until after the second treatment.
Profhilo is recommended as a course of 2 treatments (spaced 4-6 weeks apart), and optimal results can be seen 2 months after the second treatment has been administered, with the positive effects of the treatment lasting up to 6 months
Is there any downtime after a treatment?
The downtime following a Profhilo treatment is minimal, and you should be able to return to your normal ‘light’ daily activities immediately after your procedure. However, we recommend that you avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna or steamy bath for the first few days. Taking steps to avoid the sun and UV light is also highly recommended for the first few days’ post-treatment.
