Rosacea Treatment

Rosacea is a long term skin condition that affects many men and women of all ages.  It presents as facial redness and flushing with or without a burning stinging sensation, spots and small blood vessels in the skin. In severe cases the skin on and around the nose can thicken.  Rosacea can be a cause of distress and left untreated the symptoms will worsen.

There is no cure for Rosacea however the condition can be managed with the right treatment and episodes of facial flushing and breakouts minimised.

There are a variety of treatments available at Cosmedics:

  • Oral medication (prescription only)
  • Topical medication (prescription only)
  • Laser Vascular treatment
  • Skin peels

The initial consultation with our Doctor tends to be a long appointment, the skin is examined closely and the various treatment options are discussed.  Generally the patient will leave with a prescription for oral and or topical medication and a follow up appointment six weeks later is arranged. At the second visit a decision will be made to proceed to laser vascular treatment depending on how the skin has reacted to the oral/topical medication.

Laser Vascular Treatment penetrates the outer layers of skin to the blood vessels below and are destroyed by the intense heat.  The body removes the damaged tissue and any bruising that occurs fades away.

Most patients have between one and three treatments.

What are the side effects?

Temporary redness, discomfort or swelling, blisters or bruising may occur which will fade in 7-10 days.

Recovery Time

This will vary from patient to patient and depends on the individuals own healing.  Care needs to be taken for the first 4-5 days following treatment, no hot baths, no aerobic exercise, no swimming.
